I’m a Professional Mother

I feel like this post has been awhile in the making.
I started this blog thinking Mrs. H and I would share a craft or recipe or tip occasionally.
Here is the naked truth.
I’m not a professional crafter.
I don’t own any fancy cutting tools, have a stash of cardstock, or a lovely room full of “scrap” fabric.
I’m not a professional chef.
I can’t just look at the food in my refrigerator, whip something up and make it look like I was a competitor on Iron Chef.
I’m not a photographer.
You’d think I was with the amount of pictures I take, but let’s be honest, all the lighting tips and f thing-a-ma-bobs go right over my head.
I love learning about cooking, taking pictures, crafting, diy projects, and sewing, but I’m more on the beginning level on all of those.
And that’s ok, because here is what I am…
A Professional Mother.
I have the grand privilege to be mom to these 2 1/2 sweet, sweet children.
More often than not do I have those moments where I look at them and count my lucky stars that they are mine.
To my children I am Dr. Mom and can whip on a bandaid and a kiss that will magically take the ouchie away.
I am a party planner who miraculously got Batman to come out of his cave for a special appearance.
I’m a dental assistant who inspects their teeth and when I find something suspicious, I turn it over {aka make an appointment} with my friend, the dentist.
I’m a chauffeur/race car driver/secret agent/pizza delivery girl when we drive around town in our stealth little Passat.
I could work at a hair salon because I’ve been told my comb over, ramp, and shark man style are preferable over daddy’s styles. I’m also qualified because we do our best to not get soap “in the eyes” during bath time.
Their daddy told them I’m the smartest lady he knows, and they actually believed him.
I’m a cheerleader who yells like a nutcase hoping her son will score a goal, and at this age, he loves it!
I’m a 24-7 wash n fold service, merry maid and short order cook.
My son thinks I’m a designer because I take the heads and tails oreo and combine 2 to make a double stuff oreo and a blonde oreo.
Little does he know, I love the blonde ones so he’s doing me a favor by eating the regular ones.
I’m a rocket scientist that can make a 3 ingredient batch of slime.
I’m an extreme couponer, saving money so they can have their donut at the end of the trip ๐Ÿ™‚
I love to explore the wilderness- roly polies, flowers and lizards from a distance.
Throwing dance parties, singing in the car with the windows down, and letting them have an oreo before bedtime makes me “cool.”
Playing puzzles, reading, and pretend let them know I think they are important.
I’m a fire chief helping save a house or a policeman trying to find the bad guy.
I’m the one who comforts after a bad dream, who will grab that last drink of water before bed, and who makes sure they have their snuggle buddies to sleep with.
ย When our son had an eye surgery at 18 months and again at 4, I had to be strong.
On the other hand, a surprise performance of “You are My Sunshine,” at his preschool will make me crumble behind my camera lens.
Cuddling, having I love you more wars, and asking for kisses throughout the day let them know I love them more than anything.
While I don’t have an amazing profession just hanging out in my back pocket, I feel that there is nothing more important that I could be doing at this point in my life.
Even though I feel like I’m coming up short on some aspects of mothering, I love that to my children I am the whole package.
I love that they are depending on me for everything. For answers to their 100’s of questions a day, their meals, for building them up, for setting boundaries, and most importantly spending time with them.
I hope that all of my bloggy friends have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!
