Wood Pallet Family Tree

I’m pretty sure I learn something new every day…Wood pallets from the store are not free!
So when your friends grabbed some wood from the grocery store for beach bonfires, they probably weren’t supposed to. Or maybe it was too many years ago, and they were free then and not now!
I found some wood pallets on Craigslist in LA awhile ago and had my husband go pick them up.
Since they were free I made sure he didn’t leave any behind. I’ve been saving them and trying to figure out what to do with them when Gabi from Cutting Edge Stencils contacted me and asked if I would try a stencil out. I love their stencils! They have so many to choose from!
I’m giving away a $50 gift certificate to use at Cutting Edge Stencils here!
If you have read my blog for awhile, you know we move frequently, and so I wanted something that could move with us.
I love the tree stencil and decided to use my wood for this!
We ripped the wood off the pallet hoping it would look a little used and needed 3 more boards.
Do not send your parents to the back of Wal Mart to see if they look “free”
Go to Home Depot and try to get a match.
This stencil was so easy to work with. I watched a couple ofย videos and got to work.
Note: I love the shabby look of different pieces of wood, but they are not exactly even/smooth surface so some of the leaves are not perfect. My fault!
A darling friend of mine used her Silhouette and printed off Families Are Forever.ย
Love the colors we chose because they can be put with bright color or neutral color.
Now, you could stop here, but I added family pictures and made it into a family tree.
Who wouldn’t want to make a family tree when they get to look up darling vintage wedding pictures?!
This is my parents saying cheers at their reception.
They look so incredibly happy to be starting their journey together.
I was able to get my hands on wedding pictures for 3 out of our 4 sets of grandparents, but I will keep working on that last one.
I have newspaper clippings and have enjoyed learning about everyone’s “story.”
One of these days I might have to share one or two.
I love how it turned out! I can change pictures out easily which is a plus because we still have babies being born into the family and people marrying in also.
It has been fun to share with my family stuff about my husband’s family and for them to put his grandparents faces with the names they have heard about.

  15. LOVE the tree. What a great idea. You see small family trees so often but you practically have to get out a magnifying glass to read some of them, not this one, and it is beautiful. (visiting from wfmw)
