Back to School Dinner

If you read my letting go post, you know that my oldest started kindergarten a few weeks ago.
Last August, I bookmarked this party and thought I had a full year to “get ready” for the send off and had plenty of time to plan a little celebration.
Time flies and with a 10 day old baby, family flying in, and school starting I literally threw what I could together.
I found the fun pencil vase idea here and bought pencils for a great deal at Office Max.
Composition books at Target .50 a piece
It was my first time making cake pops and I loved the tutorial I found at Skip To My Lou!
They actually turned out, I was so relieved!
Bus Twinkies and I’m not going to lie, I was stressing at this point. I’m glad they got the windows, doors and wheels on!
I found the big crayons at the dollar store and tied them to some poms over the table.
Aunt Chelsea and Uncle Ben flew in for a week and made it just in time for the party! We found the paper goods at Target, slid a piece of paper under it all, and found the you are sharp idea here! Their printable is darling! I had little wood tags, spray painted them with chalkboard paint, wrote “you are sharp,” and attached them to pencils with some navy twine.
The name placards came from the dollar store and we (I) wrote the names on them. Party boy got to pick where everyone would sit.
I sure love meltaway cookies, so I made some and quickly drizzled red on top, added green frosting and pretzels to top them off.
Have you visited Bloom Designs? Jenny made a bunch of cute back to school printables and I used “Good Luck Smartie Pants” and set some smarties with them.
Red Cream Soda is a favorite around here and we finally found it after stopping at a few places.
We made a chalkboard for the party and that was a huge hit with the kids!
Here’s our big stud sitting at the head of the table. He picked breakfast for dinner. It is a huge hit in our home and grandma goes all out. We had waffles, fruit, hashbrowns, eggs, bacon, sausage, and…red cream soda?! It was his party, all his choices, and he loved it! So I guess I’d say, yes, soda with breakfast! Looks like the start of a fun tradition!
