I turn 30 today.
I’ve been thinking about it lately because it doesn’t feel like a huge change, but it sounds funny.
What have I done up to this point? What am I going to do from here on out?
I feel like I have a lot to be proud of, the top being my relationship with my hubs and our 3 beautiful children, but I also feel like my life is a work in progress and I can always make improvements.
To help me become better, I jotted down some notes that have helped me the last few years and I hope will continue to help me.
You never have to apologize for being kind. Even though it’s amazing to have your tribe (mom, sister, in laws, best friend–whoever it is for you), it’s great to be friends with everyone. I used to get nervous that if I was friends with someone from a different “group,” I’d get kicked out of my group. Now I realize I like too many people to have one group. You will always feel amazing after you serve someone else. Make sure you do it often & with your kids so they can recognize that they can be the good.
Go outside, explore, and make it an adventure. The peace & serenity that comes from being outdoors calms my anxiety, my doubts, and my worries. I crave being outside.
Take time for yourself to recharge and regroup. A trip to Target, a pedicure, a girls night out, heck even a bath with the door closed and locked would be awesome. It’s necessary.
Always look to try something new. New recipes, new restaurants, new styles.
Teach something, read something, learn something.
Eat chocolate and cookies and watermelon.
Don’t be afraid to act silly. Do you think I felt confident dancing around in a parking garage trying to get this darling ruffle to fluff up? Absolutely not. It was flowing the whole time I was walking around until we walked into the garage. If your photographer is laughing at you, you are not as graceful as you think.
Laugh often. Have fun. Act silly.
Play horse with your kids. Have dance parties while putting the dishes away. Skip rocks on the shore. Let them put their head out the sunroof. Ask for their opinion. Count horses and cows while on road trips. Cuddle. Bake. Color. Play in the dirt. Let them explore. Sing songs before bedtime. Cheer them on. Give them courage to be brave.
Be able to smile while you are arguing with your spouse, you will forgive quicker. Hold hands. Go on dates. Kiss. Have downtime together.
Communicate.
Here you go. A jumbled list of things I love, things I should do, and things I’ve learned.
Have a great week!
