Garden Party

Hey y’all!! I. AM. DONE! And back for some fun blogging time. After a month of some intense studying
and a few breakdowns to Mr. H (I am so lucky to have such a supportive hubby!) I have finally  completed my Bachelor’s in Nursing program and will soon be taking care of some of these lovely ladies..

I am sooo excited! This news actually leads into today’s blog post perfectly- baby shower diaper cakes!

Before I entered the wonderful world of blogging with tons of cute ideas and lots of free tutorials I was a bit naive when it came to crafts and would try to re-create cute ideas I had seen others do from memory.
When I learned Mrs. J was having Little Miss L I was so excited!! 1- because it was an excuse to have a party, and 2- it was going to be a pink party!! I’m much better at throwing girly themes, with boys you have to get a little more creative. We decided the party would be garden themed with lots of pink, and hints of green. This was around the time when diaper cakes were getting pretty popular at baby showers.  Clueless to the world of blogging and availability of tutorials I thought “I’ve seen these before, it couldn’t be too hard right?” Well maybe if I would’ve had a little practice first, it wouldn’t have been that bad. But it took 3 women to put this cute little cake together. I’m sure there are tutorials out there that would make it easier, but if you have enough people helping I thought our way was pretty fast and hey, it got the job done.

Supplies needed:
Diapers (depends on how big you want the cake but we probably used at least 30)
Ribbon
Small Rubberbands
A large platter (it makes it much easier to transfer)
Accessories to match your theme- ours was garden so I used flowers from Hobby Lobby and ripped the leaves off the stems for extra decoration. I love pearls, so last minute I draped strands of pearls around the cake as well that we already had on hand.

I first started rolling the diapers pretty tight and would hand them to my mom to hold together. This worked for a little while but then my mom had the brilliant idea to wrap a rubber band around each individual diaper. It made it much easier! The bottom layer got to be a little tough for one person to hold, so Mrs. J helped keep them all together too. When the layer became big enough for the platter with two women holding all the rolled diapers (hoping they wouldn’t go flying) I wrapped the ribbon tightly around the outer perimeter, snipped off the end where they met in a diagonal cut so it would not fringe, and then hot glued the ends together. We repeated this same technique with the middle and top layer. By the time we got to the top layer only 2 of us were needed. After setting them on top of each other, I rummaged through extra decorations that hadn’t been used and came up with some flowers, leaves, and strands of pearls. And voila! We had a cute, girly diaper cake that took maybe 15 minutes. Remember though, we had 3 women, without their help this would have been much harder! But I am a beginner so it would’ve maybe been easier for those with more experience.

The garden theme was a natural choice since Mrs. J already knew she was going to decorate the baby suite garden themed as seen here
The cute cupcakes were brought by the co-host of the party. They were chocolate flavored with pink icing and adorable pearl accents on top. I wish I would’ve gotten a closer picture! We also made a few other desserts. One of the biggest hits was the cheesecake bars. They are so easy to make and were gone fast! Recipe for the delicious cheesecake bars will be coming soon!
Us and our mom!
{She was not pointing at my Mrs. J’s baby bump on purpose, but was somehow doing it in every picture}
And the cute cake once more with all of the flower balls
