Our momma had rules.
Everyday rules that right before we got out of the car for school, she would ask, “What are the rules today?”
The question came like clockwork right after a quick family prayer, said by a squirmy sibling.
When Mrs. H & I were young there were 3 rules:
Be Happy
Love one Another
Choose the Right
We would rattle those off as fast as ABC.
Later came
Seize the Day
&
Show Gratitude
And that’s where the list has stopped, for now.
Our brothers are 19 and 17
and they still rattle off those sweet rules to mom when they are getting dropped off somewhere.
I made these signs for my mom.
Her rules.
One of the many reasons she is inspirational.
There are 2 because when I ordered the vinyl, there was a period put instead of a comma in the MIDDLE of the phrase.
Me, being the perfectionist I am, couldn’t handle the handpainted comma I had a friend try to insert.
So the minty green one is the first, more casual and contemporary and sits in a guest room.
The brown one fits my mom’s taste perfectly.
If she could, I’m sure she would live in a cottage like the ones in Marty Bell paintings.
Don’t they seem like easy rules?
I wish.
I wish.
They sound simple enough, are catchy when you say them together, but truly take practice and patience.
I’ve been wanting to implement family rules.
Do I make up my own catchy phrase or do I live off these?
What are your family rules?
What are your family rules?

Just found your blog from Hop Along, and so glad I did! I can’t wait to do some more exploring. I love the gift for your mom. My parents didn’t have anything like that, but every time I got in the car (once I was 15 or so) my dad would tell me to “get in, sit down, shut up, and hold on.” Ha. Not quite the same.

Great rules! Love the signs. I have to admit I’d be bothered by the period instead of the comma, too, though I guess that wouldn’t be showing gratitude – lol!
Have a great weekend. 🙂
Cheers,
