Happy Wednesday!
I just got back from SNAP and since the plane touched down I’ve been going non stop!
I just got back from SNAP and since the plane touched down I’ve been going non stop!
My choice of breakfast lately has been a smoothie and I’ve got a yummy one for you!
To say I have picky kids is an understatement.
It is always a work in progress.
Fortunately it’s not as much of a fight with our son as it used to be. I try to be creative and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m always on the look out for new things to introduce to our kids.
I heard about Lifeway Kefir Frozen Probugs and knew they’d be worth a try.
Lifeway offers the largest selection of Kefir in the world. Kefir is a creamy, probiotic dairy beverage similar, but also distinct from yogurt.
Lifeway Kefir is made with organic milk from grass fed cows, free of rBGH (Bovine Growth Hormones) & antibiotics. It’s a good remedy for digestive problems such as colitis and IBS.
We headed off to Whole Foods to pick out our new “treat!”
All of Lifeway’s products are gluten free which is a huge plus.
Kefir is a cultured probiotic beverage similar in taste and texture to drinkable yogurt, and made from milk fermented with kefir cultures. Originating over 2000 years ago in the Caucasus Mountains-where many people live well over 100 years-kefir has been associated with a long list of health benefits.
Simply put, we should all be making smoothies!
Lifeway Kefir Frozen Probugs come in 3 flavors: Orange Creamy Crawler, Goo Berry Pie, & Strawnana Split.
The kids agreed on Orange Creamy Crawler right away, blessing!
We tried them and they were so good!
Ours was even better than a creamsicle.
As great as they are, I have to stay 1 step ahead of my kids.
If I so willingly give them 1 every day after school and can’t hide my smile watching them boost their little immune systems, they’ll know something is up.
Even though I want my children to eat healthy, I also want them to just eat.
We put the Probugs into 2 of our breakfast dishes and they turned out great!
First off, we made orange rolls from here. When it came time for the glaze, I just mixed 2 tubes of the Probugs with a little bit of powdered sugar. I could have used 3 tubes, but we ran out of them so fast! It’s up to you on how much orange flavoring you like.
I used the Frozen Probugs because we were eating right then and I had them. When frozen, they essentially slow down or lay dormant. Once you consume them, they become active and may provide all the benefits of cultures in refrigerated kefir. Sustained temperatures, however, will destroy the probiotics. Kefir serves as a delicious substitute for buttermilk and sour cream in lots of recipes, but there may be some loss of bacteria if the product is exposed to high temps.
To go along with our fantastic orange rolls, we made a smoothie!
Glaze & a smoothie, I’d say these Probugs can go with just about anything.
Peach & Orange Probiotic Smoothie
Adapted from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe
2 cups orange juice (good quality) I used Simply Orange with Mango
1/2 cup peach yogurt
3 tubes of Orange Creamy Crawler Frozen Kefir (it’s about 3/4 cup)
2 cups frozen sliced peaches
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Combine all ingredients together.
I really liked the mango orange juice with it, but you could go with regular orange juice.
