I love all of the new Life Is Tees from Cents of Style, but Life Is Sweet happens to be my favorite.
I grew up surrounded by family. Lots of brothers and a sister made for a fun, loud house.
I look at my mom with an incredible amount of respect & admiration for all the kids she had coming and going from her house.
Teenage girls can be full of a lot of entertaining stories about their crushes or their bff’s or their crisis of the week.
Teenage boys on the other hand are never full & are always needing to be fed.
Somehow my mom connected with all teenagers thanks to food.
I remember her carrying trays and trays of her famous treats to football practices while juggling blankets, jackets, and 4 little ones. She made pre game dinners & big weekend breakfasts. I don’t know how she kept up with the amount of food teenage boys ate. When she married my dad, he had 5 boys between the ages of 20 & 6 & she just stepped right into her new life the way she knew how to…baking & cooking.
By the time I started having people over, I realized it was the same. My older years included friends coming over to watch the weekly showing of The Bachelor & group study sessions.
Some of my most favorite memories are of my friends & I surrounding the kitchen island around a pan of brownies & a plate of cookies with my mom intently listening to our “real life” issues.
She was trusted and loved by everyone we had over.
While I know that what I shared above revolves around treats, it is so much more.
Her love for us translated through Gingerbread House making, Sunday dinners that resemble a Thanksgiving feast, making root beer freezes after dinner, birthday parties, church celebrations, pumpkin carvings, summer BBQ’s, and family time.
She made sure we always were taken care of & anyone lucky enough to be with her would feel the same way.
While there are a bunch of darling options to choose from, this one reminded me of her & how I hope to be the same way. Whether I’m chatting with my preschooler about how she needs her nails painted immediately, or my 1st grader about how she rocked her Spanish spelling tests after weeks of anxiety, or my 4th grader about his upcoming Science project and his week full of activities, I love to take a step back and realize how sweet our life really is.
