Nutty Putty Caves

I had been in Utah a couple short months, missing my mom & family like crazy.
Two of my good friends from home (bottom row both in black) called and told me to get ready to go out and explore some caves with the crew from “The Palace.”
I laughed them off saying that definitely wasn’t my thing, but inside I was a jumble of butterflies.
The guys that lived at the palace were top notch. They were all really nice and always getting huge groups together for a fun time.
Their house was centrally located, people were coming and going at all hours, and the only way I was going to get invited was if I went with these ladies.
They were both a year older than me and went to high school with some of the guys.
My mom told me I better get going and I ran downstairs to borrow clothes because I did not have “cute, grubby clothes.” Are there even clothes like that?
Not very many people can look good with a t-shirt tucked in. Nice one babe, well played.
I had been hanging out with my friend’s brother (red shirt by me) and he picked us up to go.
We are on our way, off roading up some mountain, and the next thing I know we are stopped and hopping out of the car.
This happened…
I’m cold, it’s dark and I’m watching some idiot (that happened to be pretty dang cute) try and get his car out of the mud.
I’m not sure how long it took, but I do remember saying my toes were frozen.
He definitely made a lasting impression that night. He didn’t have to get his car stuck to do it, but it makes for funny pictures and a good laugh, from only my side usually.
He likes to say that all of the California guys were being gentle with their nice cars and he was doing circles around them.
I like to remind him that he was the one who got stuck because he wasn’t as careful as the rest of them.
The remainder of the night was a bit of a blur.
We climbed down into a hole in the middle of nowhere, did an army crawl through some muddy area that was not more than a couple feet tall, and some really adventurous people slithered through an area called the birth canal. I definitely did not do that one.
It’s one of those moments we look back on and think, “What were we thinking?!” No cell phone service, just nature, and people have since passed away in those caves.
Not one of our smarter decisions.
xo,
